Here is my choice of great kitchen gadgets that would make excellent Christmas gifts. These are my most used and most loved kitchen essentials, I couldn’t get by without them. I could probably write a far longer list of all the things I love in my kitchen. But these are the ones I find myself recommending the most and I didn’t really want to add pots and pans to a Christmas gift list!
1. VEGETABLE TURNING SLICER, £49.95 www.juiceland.co.uk. This is such a fantastic little gadget, we use ours all the time. This one has replaceable blades which is really important. You can do 3 different sized noodles, including angel hair. We have used this for root vegetables, as well as the zucchini or courgette. This model is very similar to the popular brand but much cheaper and is super easy to use, lots of noodles in seconds!
2. FROOTHIE OPTIMUM 9400 BLENDER £329 This is an extravagant gift for sure, but it is worth absolutely every penny. It replaces your food processor for most things as well, and can make a huge array of different dishes. A quality high speed blender is something every cook will use frequently and this one has a 5 year warranty, with optional upgrade to 10 years for a fee. I have a reader offer as an ambassador for the brand. If you click through from my site, you will eligible for a 2 year warranty upgrade at no extra cost. Just quote the offer and ‘Simplify Your Health’ in the comments section when you order by clicking here. If you can stretch to a top professional blender, this is far more affordable than the Vitamix and will be a superb gift for the foodie in your life.
3. MANDOLIN SLICER: OXO £9.99, John Lewis. This is inexpensive but brilliant! The one thing about a plant based diet is you spend more time on food prep, this cuts that time down significantly without needing to spend a lot of money. I make salads like my Vegan Coleslaw in super fast time with my mandolin slicer. It is sharp, but they usually come with a hand guard. In Australia you can find a range here, for New Zealand you can find the OXO Mandolin here or please visit your local kitchen speciality store, they are very common and affordable.
£24.99 at John Lewis. I have had one of these for years and years. I have never used it for coffee! But I use it several times a week to grind seeds and nuts. I am stunned at how long I have had this, considering how often I use it. It is outstanding value for money, and a handy little gadget when you don’t want to use your blender or processor. This is a new and improved model to the one I got years ago. It may not be available worldwide, but there are coffee and spice grinders for a comparable cost and performance, no need to get top of the range for this purpose.
5. MARBLE PASTRY BOARD £40.00 at John Lewis. If you aren’t fortunate enough to have a marble kitchen countertop, then this is a great substitute. In my opinion, this blows away all other pastry or kitchen boards as simply incomparable. This one is very large, perfect for my sourdough bread, any pie dishes but also as a general kitchen board. If space is an issue, you can keep it on a kitchen table. This will not need replacing either, unless you drop it from a tall building! It would make a wonderful gift and is a beautiful addition to any kitchen.
